Summer Day Camp Counselor

Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Summer Day Camp Counselors for the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. As a Day Camp Counselor, you will lead and facilitate engaging activities for youth in grades Kindergarten to 7th, fostering their growth and development in a safe and inclusive environment. This is a seasonal position running from early June to mid/late August, operating Monday to Friday, with varied staff shifts.

Responsibilities

• Organize and lead a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for campers, including nature walks, games, arts and crafts, and swimming.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of camp participants at all times, including behavior management and emergency response.
• Maintain clean and organized camp spaces, communicate effectively with parents, and keep accurate program records.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to create a fun and secure camp environment.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• Experience in camp, youth programs, or related fields preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and other required clearances.
• Ability to actively participate in camp activities and work effectively in a team setting.
